This week (and fairly frequently), on the Mac App Store, Apple lists a group of “Apps for Writers.”
I have used (and own) many of those of the apps. Of the apps I have used, here is my shorter list of those I use frequently or would use frequently if I had a project requiring the methods in the application.
These apps are in no particular order.
- Writer Pro (OK, so this is my #1 pick; everybody needs this app. You will save a lot of time preparing document first drafts in this rather than a full-featured word processing program and in many cases the document you can write in this app suffices and there is no reason to do additional formatting in Word or Pages.)
- Byword (writing environment)
- Day One (journal)
- Ulysses III (heavy duty manuscript production? This is the one for writing a book, dissertation, or term paper.)
- Blogo (Rudimentary posts on WordPress blogs; this post was prepared in it. Limited features but very fast.)
- Evernote (I use this continuously. The paid version is worth every $ € ¥ £ ₨ ₩ ₱ ₪ it will cost.)
- Scapple (Essential for research for writing projects.)
- Notability. I have tried every darn note app ever developed (or at least it seems as if) that was supposed to take notes the easy way and synch seamlessly between the Mac-iPad-iPhone. The long search is over. Got to the Emerald City.
All of my comments and selections refer to the PAID (unlocked) versions of these apps. The free versions do not usually have all of the features I will use if they are available.
